Dividend Payments 2020

2020 Portfolio Recap

The biggest news of 2020, of course, was the global pandemic that crippled the world most of the year and continues to plague us in the new year. However, after the initial shock to the market in March the stock market seemed to decouple from reality and marched higher and higher throughout the year, closing it out at record highs.

This helped the Divs4Jesus portfolio cross that all important milestone of $100,000 for the first time in November. As with past years, we continued purchasing stocks each and every month regardless of what the market was doing. However, with all the major brokerages now doing away with commissions on trades we’ve transitioned into doing smaller buys of multiple stocks, instead of one large purchase of one or two stocks. Overall we added 9 new companies to our portfolio in 2020. We also did not sell any of our holdings. Overall this brings the total companies held in the portfolio to 39.

With 2020 closed out, the Divs4Jesus portfolio is now three (3) years old. Dividends received this year totaled $3,426.54. This far surpassed our initial 2020 goal of hitting $2000.00 in dividends. This blow out of our 2020 goal was partly due to VALE resuming its dividend after having suspended them in 2019. We also got a lot of help from MSM who paid out 2 special dividends totaling $8.50/share on top of their normal $3/share yearly dividend. But it wasn’t all positive. We did have a few dividend suspensions and cuts in 2020 due to the pandemic. Cuts and suspensions included F, LEA, FL, and SPG, all of which have resumed there payments (be it at lower levels) except F. All other holdings either increased their payouts or held them steady. All said and done, our dividend income ended up 144% higher than in 2019 when the total for the year was only $1,389.58. We can’t complain about that at all.

Going into 2021 we are setting a goal of trying to exceed a yearly dividend income of $4000.00.

Below are some tables summarizing our dividends in 2020.
